As I contemplated returning to my old way of life, the door to the library was opened ajar. Tomoya-kun was standing there, with his head down. I looked at him, but he did not look back at me.
He took some hesitant steps forward, and stopped a few feet away from me. I said my greetings to him, and Tomoya-kun greeted me back. Then he asked me if I wanted to share lunch. I was so happy with those words. Tomoya-kun had returned, to pick me up from my lonely world again. Or had he?
We shared lunch silently. I let Tomoya-kun know that some of the food was a bit overcooked. He didn't mind, but he still wouldn't look at me when I tried to gaze at his eyes. When I turned my attention to my bento, I could feel him looking at me. But if I turned to him, he would immediately avert his eyes.
When we finished lunch, Tomoya-kun said it was delicious, and headed out. I wanted to speak out, to make him stay just a little while longer...
Tomoya-kun stopped before I could voice my feelings. He looked back at me, as if he had something he wanted to say. He stood there for a while, his eyes filled with doubt. Without warning, he turned around and ran out of the library.
"Don't go..." I said, but he was already gone.
