I didn't like the original. I honestly felt as though the entire idea was based around fanservice. Which can be GOOD if done in a humorous or "poke fun at self" style but Geass didn't do that. For one thing the entire thing just SCREAMED Gundam. If the mecha design had been reminiscent of it than it probably would have BEEN Gundam.
That's not to say that Gundam in itself is a complete plot point but really there was nothing that set itself apart in the mecha genre. Secondly it also just looked like Death Note. I mean it's obvious Leouch is just the same kind of character as Light. You don't even have to pull your imagination muscle that hard to switch them around.
A lot of this COULD have been saved with superb writing, themes, background and characters. But sadly it lacks all of these things as most of it's plot, characters and darn well near ANYTHING are just withheld for the second season. I honestly feel like they took the WORST examples of American television and implemented it here. What's worse is that the Japanese audience fell for it.
