Even more annoying about Kamina's personality is how the series tries to give us a half-assed reasoning for his behavioral patterns in episode 8. I'm not going to spoil it for you, but man, everyone acted like what Kamina said to Yoko to make her feel good was like the equivalent of Adolf Hitler's actions or something. The frustrating thing about this episode is we really see Yoko as a sad, fragile girl only wanting to be loved. This is not a bad thing, as it shows this show can actually have the ability to be a serious anime with a real story when it wants to be. The problem with this is after Kamina apologizes, everything's all of a sudden fine again, and Yoko proceeds to kiss him
directly on the lips. Ew. And thus the show takes the only thing remotely resembling plot or character development and throws it out the window. Thanks a lot, GAINAX.
And then we have Simon's friends. Let's start with Rossiu, an annoying, even more underage Native American looking boy who wears a coat for no real reason the grand majority of the time. In addition to being the obligatory bitchy tsundere character that every shounen comedy most have these days, he also serves little purpose than to fawn over Simon, in much the same manner Yoko does with Kamina, but far creepier. One of his fantasies involves Kamina
naked and on top of Simon, who's also naked. Yuck. This crap wasn't funny in Ouren Highschool Host Club, and it isn't funny here, either. And typical of him being a tsundere character, Rossiu hates Simon and also belittles/hurt
him, whether physically or emotionally, because we always need a boy beating up on a guy because it's supposedly funny. It's not.
