The public schooling system is horrendous, however the University system is good.
Public schooling is at the whim of parents who don't bother to teach their children much of anything, and expect the government to do something which is essentially "daycare."
I always took honors classes in highschool, barring math/chem/phys, which I dislike. I always enjoyed them, and learned a bunch from them and retained that information because there were others around me that knew what they were doing and the teachers were very good.
However I have heard horror stories that the cp level classes were full of idiots, and were pretty much time sinks for the lot of them. Whats were, I had heard that the teachers were just as stupid as the students.
Now I'm in a JC and I am relearning stuff from highschool. I am being told what a "thesis" statement is, and have not analyzed a single piece of literature since I got here. My math class feels like it is straight out of highschool, and quite frankly, the general education of most colleges is all the shit you were supposed to learn in HS all over again.
It makes me wonder why I bothered to work so hard if it all amounts to jack shit in the end.
