I was going to post this in an earlier thread, but it dropped off the board...
Today, on my way home from work, it was pouring rain. Since it was rush hour, a lot of the taxis were already occupied and weren't stopping. I was lucky enough to get one, but just as we were about to pull away, I noticed a woman with no umbrella desperately trying to hail a cab.
I'm not sure how I managed to get up the courage, but I yelled at my driver to stop. /a/, I am so horrifyingly afraid of real women, I don't know how my brain managed to get my mouth to tell the man to stop the car. But it apparently stopped working when I tried to offer her a seat in the cab. I was reduced to a stuttering, bumbling mess. It didn't help that she was very pretty. Awkward as I was though, she quickly got into the taxi.
She told me "thank you so much, I didn't think any of the others were going to stop for me."
All I could do was nod and stutter out a lame "Yeah."
She was headed in the same direction as me, so it worked out well. But half way into the drive, I noticed she was shivering. She was soaking wet, and the cab didn't exactly have heat for the backseat. Again, I don't know how I did it, but I managed to offer her my coat. She took it and she thanked me, over and over again. By this point I was scared shitless, and pretty much remained silent for the rest of the ride, until we got to her stop. She thanked me again and got out and went running off toward an apartment complex.
She took my jacket.
But when I got home, there was a message on my answering machine. It was the girl from the cab. She said she had found my phone number on the tag of my jacket and wanted to return it. She gave me her phone number and told me to call her back.
