Pretty much. It's a metaphor for something totally unexpected and at the same time really fuckwin.
I found the first season to be alright, albeit a bit formulaic, and the second season a real turnoff because of the half-length episodes. But I was fascinated with Drosselmeyer and wanted to watch more of him, so I went through it.
It paid off something like the last third of the second season - that was the jam session.
