It may sound like an overstatement, but I really don't think it is, to say that - what we're seeing actually is perhaps an entirely new genre of comedy in the making. I think, in a way that no other comic entity (perhformers or writers or tv shows or anything) is today, Tim & Eric, and this show, is making comedy history.
I can't think of anything aside from Wondershowzen right off the top of my head that has been that brave.
And - you know, pioneers don't get greeted with the marching band and the accolades. Because - when you're the first one to show up, or the first one to do something, people don't get it, or aren't there, or are even resentful of it.
I think it illicits negativity because it's inventive. If it were the same worthless crap everybody else was doing, then nobody would hate it.
Everybody would be indifferent to it. Or like it. or whatever.
Because it's unique, original, and inventive, people who are into that, are into Awesome Show.
I'm not a fan of Adam Sandler, or Robin Williams, or blahbidyblah whoever. Jerry Seinfeld.
But I love comedy. I don't love covering the same ground over and over again, which I feel most comedians do.
But - you know, Lenny Bruce. Groucho Marx. Roseanne Barr. Dave Chappelle - that list goes on and on as well, comedians and shows that paved the way, shoved their way out there in some cases, were flying in the face of convention.
People who actually have something to say, or have something inside them that's unique.
Tim & Eric isn't yer standard "didja ever wonder...?" type seinfeld crap. "dja ever notice...?"
Tim & Eric is OH MAMA!!!!
