Another version of this: try moving a transparent window (examples of this include a menu shadow, amongst other things) over a 3D surface on XP.
Yet another: pick up some non-demanding game which runs at ease at your monitor refresh rate. Check CPU usage on XP and Vista (spoilers: XP: at least 100% of one core; Vista: might very well be 0%
Oh, and: same as the previous one, but with a game that is very bound by the video card, and not by the processor (spoilers: XP: at least 100% of one core; Vista: whatever the game and driver needs, leaving the processor idle or usable by other apps while it waits for the video card
