I liked the Kare Kano anime. I know how the anime ends in the middle of the original story line and all. Haven't really got the motivation to read the manga. Besides, the manga's art style's too flowery-shoujo for me, I think.
Anyway, I liked Kare Kano because I felt like I could relate to it, being an honors/upper level student in high school, and now a student at an upper-middle tier university. Like Yukino and Soichiro, I felt those same pressures of having to get good grades and participating in extracurriculars. Unlike Yukino, I didn't overachieve to put on a front though, and I wasn't much of a faker. In fact, I actually had the gall to parody the stereotypical upper level high school junior for an assignment in my junior year British Lit class. Shit was fun, and I got a good grade, I think.
I also fell in love with a girl in my senior year who was in the same general situation.
And in general, I thought it was a nice portrayal of high school romance complete with complications like especially how to maintain a relationship when you have the terrific external pressure of your future, both short and long term.
