If anime has ever impacted your life that deeply, you should probably end it immediately. However: Paranoia Agent, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Flag, Eva (maybe), Kaiba, some other shit too I can't think of off the top of my head. But you should consider reading more manga. It's rare for anime that doesn't seem "cliche" to be produced because all those cliches are profitable formulas. Most anime is marketed to either children or otaku's boners. But manga isn't so expensive to produce or as difficult to get published. There's manga about anything. No shit, I'm reading a manga now about urban legends surrounding Robert Johnson, the blues musician, and how he sold his soul to the devil to be able to play guitar. Moreover, you could consider reading a fucking novel some time too if you like thinking so much. Anime and its ilk is often just an escapist guilty pleasure to turn your brain off rather than on.
