High atop the cliffs that rise from the Britannian continent, the citadel of Pendragon houses the greatest library of writings on the face of Earth. It is an imposing fortress, kept in strict isolation from the rest of the Three Kingdoms. It is isolated, strictly regimented, and it is home.
Within these keep's austere walls Lelouch's story begins. He was tutored by the wise Emperor Charles. Actually his father, he raised Lelouch on hundreds of tales of heroes and monsters, lovers and infidels, battles and tragedies - however, one story was always left untold. That, of his true heritage. Lelouch was always told he was an orphan, but his past was largely unknown.
Lately, Charles has appeared agitated at something, as if some grave matter weighs heavily upon his heart. Lelouch has asked about his concerns as lightly as he could, to no avail.
Today, Charles appears more agitated than ever, and has interrupted Lelouch's chores in the middle of the day. Imparting hurried instructions to prepare himself for travel, and handing him what money he can spare, Lelouch finds himself confronted by an unplanned and unexpected banishment.
