You have to make a DVD menu in five minutes, convert the whole thing so it has lesser quality, and split in 3 disks for a 24 episode series.
Print some covers, sell them for $5 a piece.
It would be a good way to get some spare change, but the bootleg market is oversaturated. And with better broadband connections, and cheaper internet, people are turning away from them as their only source of anime, becoming instead the place for casual viewers who won't buy as much, and it's almost the same shit. (Naruto sells by the fuckload, and since it's split in several DVDs, ka-ching.)
Irony is, some bootleggers install copy protection, so they can hog "exclusives" they managed to get, before competing groups copy them in turn.
tl;dr, where anime is not licensed, it's free for all.
