Yep, every show that gets big here goes through that process:
-Show begins, /a/non either likes it or ignores it so the threads are all positive
-Show becomes more popular, both on /a/ (ie 75% of page 1 is about it on days it airs) and outside of /a/ (ie places with a higher concentration of faggots such as Gaia.)
-People who started watching it and decided they didn't like it or who are just not into the show in the first place get fucking sick and tired of seeing it around all the time and start bitching in all threads related to it. In addition, trolls masquerade as people on both sides, pretending to be haters and retarded fanboys alike.
Virtually every show that has hit a certain level of popularity on /a/ goes through this. Otome, Haruhi, Geass, Gurren Lagann, etc. Lucky Star is unique in that due to being a KyoAni moeblob show it wound up skipping directly to the final step.
Death Note... kindof avoided this process, and I'm not sure why, since it is/was mega-popular. Perhaps it's because it had so many memes going for it (SWIMMING LESSONS) before the show even started airing. Or maybe it's because it was already really popular from the mango before the animu started so the 'turn on it when it becomes popular' effect never got any traction.
Regardless, this is why the shows that are universally liked on /a/ are either shows that predate /a/ (Azumanga Daioh) or not-that-popular ones (Akagi, Kaiji, etc.)
