If Lelouch becomes immortal, it would be a fate worse than death.

All of the family he loves so much are in the afterlife, if he dies he can't see any of them again, maybe talk to them at best. Not only that, he'll be lonely and can't make any friends - if C.C. dies permanently, and knowing Lelouch's reluctance to keep people close, he can't make relationships because he'll know the people he love will grow old and die. Everyone he ever knew/loved will be gone and he'll be left in a world that will be most likely discriminatory against Britannians.

It's the ultimate BAD END and Lelouch is headed straight for it.
