Yeah, and they did. Everything he says in the drama we're talking about is basically repeated in the scene where he joins Lelouch. They're canon, they count. DVD specials and the like exist to fill in blanks that don't *need* to be filled but obsessive fans want to know about anyway. And for fanservice.
In fact while we're told in the picture drama that he was a guard for Marianne and felt bad about not being able to protect her we're not told that that was his primary motivation for everything he did until this episode, so that is in fact information that we're *only* told in the show itself. Which is of course something they needed to hide either way because his jumping ship was supposed to be a surprise.
