Rob Liefeld's DID have a poor sense of anatomy all around. It wasn't just his muscles that were blown out of proportion it's EVERYTHING right down to his insanely unrealistic feet.
I do agree that they animators DO exaggerate CLAMP's designs considerably to the point that things do tend to look broken and mishappen, but I do believe that they are trying their best to keep with how they see CLAMP's work to be as opposed to Rob Liefeld, who genuinely, had little sense of human anatomy, perspective, composition, and bad depth perception in the 90s.
