My first exposure to Ayako was Seto no Hanayome, and Your-Mom made them look like the Gods of fansubbing.
I can't remember anything else I've watched that they subbed that stood out as being particularly bad, but there was probably some show that I didn't watch that they botched horribly, because /a/ haet Ayako.>>12958098
If you know Japanese well enough that you can pick apart a fansub group's release and note any errors they made, then good for you, I guess. Unless it's something really obvious, like 'even electronic brain pancake crystal elderly', I'm generally happy with a group that gets the basic meaning, and then puts some work into making sound like a person talking, instead of a machine.
If I wanted a literal translation, I'd use babelfish.
