I don't see why a contrived story like Evangelion deserves more praise over a plot that is less likely to offend people and their views (TTGL).
I personally hate when authors write a story that is a lot more complex than it should be for the sake of saying a story needed to be more interesting. It's like they failed in all other departments of story-telling-setting, dialouge and other choice elements-and chose to beef that up with a rather confusing plot.
Not everything has to be a simple plot no, if it requires a complex story to tell a theme, then I don't mind it at all. I'm just not keen on the idea that authors can fill a plot up with so much text and dialogue and take forever to say what could have been said in a single scene of ocuring EVENTS. Not chatter, but EVENTS.
