I agree with 'survival of the fittest' but not with his definition of 'fittest'. The most fit species is not the strongest, meanest, most self-concerned. It is the one that fits its ecological niche the best, and a trait that helps a species fit this niche could very well be concepts of 'justice' and 'morality'. Were it not for civilization we would still be living in caves beating buffalo to death with sticks. Our ability to learn is far overshadowed by our ability to pass what we have learned down through generations so that THEY don't have to start from scratch, thus negating all progress. Humanity would be far more advanced today if we stopped all wars (don't call me an idealistfag, I know that would never happen) and expended more energy on scientific research. In a world where everyone has a chance to learn to the best of his abilities without having to be constrained by his level in society, by his color of skin, by his religion, by his/her GENDER, we would be far more advanced than we are today.
