Anime is a strange art form that could not exist in our own culture, in a way it is a window into our past, and our future, in that Japanese society more closely resembles the US prior to the sexual revolution, and in that Japanese society doesn't have some of our idiosyncratic conservation. It is also to a certain extent a source of content that is intrinsically different, something from a different culture, and one which for the first time in history is just as advanced as our own.
The reason that I like it is it's pure expression of strange complexes, such as the rape/penetration complex, that paradox alone leads me to contemplate for hours. There is also the expression of aesthetics which is refreshing compared to our androgynous society, if a little corrupt to a point.
The funnest thing is to play H visual novels, because they usually contain really deep writing, albeit really unintentionally deep writing. What is interesting is to notice when the writers cross the line of decency, such as the lack of branching paths and the comic victimization of Eruruw in Utawarerumono, and how it is a horrible mishandleing of the raep complex.
This is the disadvantage of anime and VN's, sometimes they take something so beautiful, and idea, a character, and they use it in a way that makes any chivalrous man want to die.
