Why does harem anime/manga always have a "true girl" or whatever, basically screwing over all the other girls throughout the story?

I mean, it's one thing if one of the girls and the dude hook up that's fine. I am talking about more the author forcing a character onto you the entire story, like Naru or Moka.

And when they choose a girl early on so aggressively, they try and throw in a serious relationship into the harem, this is a big no no. Why the hell are you trying to ruin a fun thing, when all you accomplish is to piss off 9/10 of the readers since the main chick is almost always the crappiest/most mary sue of the bunch.

Not to mention in order to get that serious relationship they build the main love interests biggest competitor's character to usually being a superior, more unique, and way better defined character.
