Anime is a style, but not an artistic one. Or it's more than just googly eyes characters. It's the feeling and plot. Super heroes cannot be anime no matter what style you give it. If they actually made a good plot, it probably wouldn't be as bad (never seen avatar though) but in the end it's just guys in suits going "Anime is popular! If we make our shows look like anime, then people will like them, because all they care about are the visuals!"
It's most annoying when they try to use the expressions and chibification and all those other stupid things.
That said, strangely, the only style of faux anime style art that I've liked is Totally Spies's, not that I've ever watched that show for anything other than fapping material. There's something about it that doesn't bug me as much. Maybe it's a better fusion. Maybe it's because they don't go overboard with the irises. Probably because the blonde resembles Minnie May.
