It's not my fault if you can't tell the difference between QUALITY and an intentional stylistic choice. The episode was silly so they animated it in a silly style. Facial features were exaggerated but then again, so were the cast's actions. Sheryl was hamming up her diva act, Alto's tsundere was on overdrive, etc.
Remember, this is a cartoon. Just because it's from Japan doesn't change that. Cartoons use and have always used various techniques to get their point across. The point of episode 8 was "a silly day in the life". The look only served to complete the feel.
