Sorry if that's how I sounded. I know I've come off as extreme from reading what I typed. That isn't what I meant at all. People who have actually committed the crimes against a child have destroyed the innocence of a child and do deserve punishment but:
1) It shouldn't be publicised. Getting the media involved, allowing public access to registers and things like that; it just shouldn't be allowed. This only serves to demonize the illness further.
2) There should be rehabilitation offered and the length of a sentence should be shortened dependant on how well the offender takes to the rehabilitation. Currently, once they eventually leave captivity, they're just told "Don't go near children again or you'll be back here, sharpish." THIS DOESN'T HELP. (of course, this gets into the whole problem of the current judicial system but fuck if i'm even going to talk about that jesus christ)
Anyway, what I'm most angry about is the fact that people who have restrained themselves against acting upon their desires aren't offered help. If they come forward, they're seen as just as evil as someone who has raped a child themselves. There's no Paedophiles Anonymous or any support groups like that (or at least none that offer useful guidance, from my research (I'm a neuroscience student who is specialising in mental disabilities; again, not a paedo).)
But yeah, sorry. I do think I have a point, but I get a little excited when making them and do tend to come off as rash and unthinking. I'm not trying to say "Let's create the ultimate liberal paradise where everything is allowed", just that the way things currently are is the worst way that things could possibly be.
