You were unemployed for a fucking year, after walking out of a WalMart job? WTF?
Anyways, I don't know how much $2,000 goes for rent in your state. My state has the highest per captia income of the US, so it costs me about $800 a month on rent and utilities alone (My apartment is also fairly nice). Considering that you live somewhere in the Midwest you'll probably get more mileage out of it.
Seriously though, work on getting the job first, my biggest goal in moving out was to ensure that when I did it I would be secure enough not to have to move back. It's almost funny how I lost my job right after I moved though.
Make this your check list:
1. Get a decent car
2. Save up for at least 3 months of expenses
3. Get a decent job (Not retail, something you're making at least $28k a year minium in)
4. Move out
