Most seinen is just as bad as most shonen, actually. The few stock seinens that /a/ uses to increase their weeaboo cred (Blade of the Immortal, Monster, Berserk and a few others) are actually quite rare.
Then there's all the eternal newfags who deny that their favorite series are shonen despite being published in a shonen magazine and never switching to a seinen one (like Vinland Saga did after the first few chapters)>>11808782

Episode 5 was pretty badly paced, I'll give you that. As for the comedy, SE's comedic timing is average by normal human standards and pretty good by anime ones. It's hard to be truly clever and witty when your target audience thinks Lucky Star is comedy gold.
I raged when Shaft had to add unfunny Family Guy-ish nerd references to SZS season 2, since weeaboos and otakus hate occasionally clever social commentary. Your anime isn't truly funny unless you reference some stupid bullshit from Eva.
