I don't recall any worthless subplots. Every single encounter she had brought her closer to getting home and/or developed her character. Just like in any story about a person whisked away to another land they must go through a certain number of quests or character building experiences to prove themselves worthy. It's a fairy tale. He parents becoming pigs is extremely important. It ups the stakes and forcers her to accomplish the task and find a solution on her own. >>too many pans of scenery that serves no story purpose
