No, not really. It's certainly not as subtle as YKK and it does have elements that make it more accessible to anime fans - cute girls, super deformed humor, a chubby cat, etc.
However I don't think Aria lacks creativity nor is the artwork generic or ugly unless the character designs drive you away for some reason. Neo Venezia is quite a beautiful city and the mangaka has added a mix of futuristic and fantastic elements to differentiate it from the real Venice. I think she's pretty creative in that regard.
I can certainly understand if someone were to think that Aria can never quite measure up to YKK, and I'd probably agree, but it should really be judged on it's own merits. There's room for more than one kind of relaxing slice-of-life manga.
