No, I used it as an example. Fuck, even the most hardcore HxH fans I know consider Gon the most generic and unimpressive character, not just in HxH but in shounen in general.
He's got the goofy, silly, naive little kid thing down to a T, eats a lot, is dependant on his friends and saving them, after the Hunter Test Arc he suddenly became a moralfag out of nowhere and refuses to kill or get people killed (even though before that, as someone mentioned earlier regarding kid Goku Gon didn't seem to give a shit if people died and even SUPORTED Kurapica's dream during the Exam).
There's nothing that makes Gon special or stand out as a character. He doesn't even have a defining "Dream" or aspiration unlike most shounen characters. I mean, he sorta cared about finding his dad, but no so much that it defined him, mostly just cause he wanted to meet the guy he idolizes and because it was something fun to do.
Also, I personally have a beef with HxH because it goes out of its way to avoid the fights it's supposed to rely on as a shounen FIGHTING series. The only real fight or challenge after the Hunter Exam was Kurapica fighting that one big, hulking guy from the Phantom Troup, other then that, every time some fight, or tournament, or series of rescue arc is ABOUT to start the manga-ka goes "haha PSYCHE!" and shit either turns silly or the fights never happen.
