In case this guy is still around, I'd like to hear exactly why do you post "instant sage" as a response to my tripcode. Lately, I've been using my tripcode more, but I've basically only used it to post in threads that are related to video playback / the technology involved in fansubbing. Why? Because unlike quite many others here, I actually have a large knowledge on the subject, and with a tripcode people can recognize that my posts are a good source for information regarding these subjects. If someone asks me something regarding these subjects and is actually willing to learn, I'd be glad to tell them, but if I see something like a diehard VLC fan suggesting VLC as a good playback method for anime, obviously I'm going to interrupt and tell people why it's not a good idea, basing my posts on actual facts.
Also, when it comes to the subject of arguing with someone about things like playback solutions, for example if this diehard VLC fan goes around saying "VLC is the best, CCCP sucks", the point of arguing with the person isn't really about trying to convince him/her to change his/her ways (that's just an extra), it's more about making your opponent look like he/her is wrong and you are right, so that even the dullest person would notice that you shouldn't listen to someone suggesting VLC as the playback solution for anime.
