>>11678964>>after looking at the wiki entry, could someone explain the difference between gekiga and seinen?
Gekiga was coined by Yoshihiro Tatsumi (Abandon the Old in Tokyo, The Push Man and other Stories) in the late 50s. It came about as a reaction to some of the problems he and other's saw in Japanese society.
I haven't read that much gekiga to be honest but when I think of the term I think of either Tatsumi, Golgo 13 or Kazuo Koike.
Tatsumi's stories seemed to be incredibly depressing with what could be considered some major uh anger at woman. It's definitely a reflection of the times.
Golgo 13 and Kazuo Koike's stuff is gritty, violent, serious and totally over the top. This often creates unintentionally hilarious results.
