Whoa, man, you sure are digging up some old shit. But "act like a typical rampant /b/tard"? Please. I might have been more rude than I am these days, but even by observing the posts in this thread they're largely factual and legitimate information about playback and how streaming sucks and so on. And I stopped going to /b/ regularly around early 2005 when I became an /a/ regular.>>11666292,2
Yeah, Daiz !roDFrIEnds was my initial tripcode. The first time I used it was in February 2008 when I did my first release ever, episodes 1 & 2 of Ryofuko-chan. After that I didn't really start using it until a month later, when I figured I could start using a trip for the sake of giving legitimate and trustworthy playback help on /a/. I never really liked this particular trip, though, which is why I switched to my current one in September 2008 (as the archive kindly informs us). During the years my trip usage has extended to some other subjects like encoding, fansubbing, scanlation and my own releases, though I still give playback help too (as you might have noticed).
Though actually, since we're here in depths of the archive, let me tell you little story: This isn't actually my first tripcode - way back in 2006, I took up a name and a tripcode (which had absolutely nothing to do with this one). I posted with it for a while, but I started to hate it very quickly. It just felt... wrong, and much less fun than just posting anonymously like I had done so far. I think it lasted a week or two at most, then I just completely dropped the tripcode and went back to anonymous posting. The reason why I've used this trip for so long is because I have a purpose for using it - the few subjects that I talk about with it. Outside those subjects, I still post anonymously all the time, because I just hate general non-purpose tripfaggotry.
On a similar note, I'm not very hot about the idea of forced DISPLAY_ID (like what's going on in /b/ at the moment, unless moot removed it already) that was all the rage a while back. It would basically force an identity upon everyone, which would remove a lot of the anonymity that many of us loves and values so much. However, I could get behind the idea of eliminating tripcodes in favor of DISPLAY_IDs - like if you could choose between regular anonymous posting or DISPLAY_ID posting. That way you could still have the benefits of user identification when it's needed (sure, you'd need to establish who you are in new threads, but if you actually have something to contribute that shouldn't be very hard) while effectively removing the aspect of tripfaggotry that is only about attention whoring (since nobody would give a fuck about who you are if the only thing you can "contribute" is attention whoring). Of course, I doubt we will be seeing DISPLAY_ID on /a/ anytime soon (if ever), but still, this is what I think would be the best way to go about it.
