I do not follow Naruto at all, and am all the richer for it.
I only vaguely follow Bleach through perusing the various troll threads, because I believe it was an okayish shonen series that basically ballooned into something retarded when they went to Soul Society.
One Piece is the only one of those three that I honestly follow.
I like One Piece because it's no smarter than Naruto or Bleach, but because it seems to have a much greater spirit of GAR about it. There's no moping, no shipping to speak of (a HUGE feather in OP's cap), no high school, and a stretchy protagonist who's dumb as a rock but genuinely fearless and totally confident -- and so damn entertaining as a result that he's one of the few shonen protagonists that I actually root for in fights rather than wishing fervently that he gets smacked in the mouth by someone with maturity and common sense.
OP is about a fearless idiot and his highly caricatured crewmates (IS IT THAT HARD TO TRANSLATE "NAKAMA" BASED ON CONTEXT, JESUS CHRIST KIDS, IT'S NOT SOMETHING TERRIBLY FUCKING ZEN, MAKE THE FUCKING CALL) who live the idealized pirate dream - drinking, fighting, getting rich, and being free. I'll take that over a bunch of teenage ninja bickering or a bunch of stone-faced jackasses in big black pants comparing Bankai size any day.
Do what you want cause a pirate is free.
