/b/ wasn't supposed to be called "random" in the first place. It was supposed to be a clone of Nijiura, a 2D board on Futaba, but the first batch of goons didn't know what that meant in an out-of-context way and they just talked about "that b board that's got all that random shit in it". Our /b/ was awesome for a while because it was a mix of 2D and some 3D. Now that more people go to it, people who use myspace all the time and don't like anime and recommend the board to people who don't like anime who further recommend it to other people who don't like anime (further complicating matters when it's popular in a fucking high school) have made the signal-to-noise ratio so fucking low that it's practically impossible for anything other than a mass restructuring of its core userbase to drag itself out of the mud.
The level of /b/ sucking is inversely proportional to the percentage of people on the board who like anime, which as a statistic decreases with time. I've been watching /b/ since the first few months of 2004 and all I've seen is a degradation since Snacks was demodded -- mostly because he was the one who spent all day pressing F5 and deleting/banning people who were shitty posters.
