The anime was quite good. It was just the very end/how it finished that was lackluster. I actually prefered the anime to the manga for "Midori no Hibi".
It was, how you say, more streamlined. There were some chapters cut out that really weren't good, and didn't contribute much to the plot/story.
Also, so as not to spoil, I'll just say that the anime didn't "flip flop" as the manga did in terms of Midori's condition.
