Anime was best from around 1985 until 1996. And no, it has nothing to do with nostalgia.
In the past few years I've barely been able to force my way through one or two shows a year, so I thought I was growing tired of anime. Then I started watching old shows from the 90s, and realized I wasn't growing tired of anime, but that anime had devolved just like American cartoons. Modern stuff is quite simply low quality bullshit, without any personality, attention to detail or style. The moe craze and the shift to digital animation are two of the culprits.
