I don't understand Japanese very well, at all. I'm one of your general weeaboo faggots who is sub crazy and hates dubs.
I am not going to defend against "you don't understand it so you can't judge the acting", in a linguistic sense.
But I know what is more defined, I know what shows difference in character. Anime is all about "the moments" when shit happens, when drama is at the forefront. The English VAs can't do it, they just can't seem to pull out a definitive voice.
There are actors who have very defined voices, such as the, danny devito, nickolas cage, etc.. etc..
And I would kill to see some of these well defined voices do anime. There are admittedly a lacking of female outstanding voices, but yeah.
There are heaps of young actresses out there with voices that would probably suit many young anime girls, grab some of the talent that don't make it to the big screen because they're not photogenic. I was just browsing through some clips on youtube and came accross Miley Cyrus, she could do a young anime girl (I don't even know who she is until I saw the youtube clip btw).
