This is such bullshit. I only heard of Golgo about 6 months ago because I listen to a podcast who 80% of the time reviews oldschool anime.
But I'd say a lot of anime fans have not heard of Golgo. But you could watch anime for years and never hear of it. Which is unfortunate, to be sure, but just because it's popular in Japan doesn't mean fans outside know about it. How many people do you think now about Gegege Kitarou, for instance?
Although I guess there is a big difference between a casual fan and a so-called otaku and on /a/ I expect you to be the latter... but still..
