'Retro remakes' = lack of original ideas.
List! What is yonder sound? Why, it's the sound of metal scraping against concrete!
With all the 'threequels', adaptations of TV series/books/comics etc in recent years, Hollywood is devoid of new concepts. Proof? When they have to resort to doing a screen adaptation of a musical version of an existing film (The Producers), you know the studios/screenwriters have gone through the bottom of the original ideas barrel to find the last subatomic particle of a new concept, and reached the floor underneath. And with Cobra & Golgo 13, it seems Japan is starting to go the same way. And you notice they're Shonen/Seinen manga/animes? Maybe this is proof that Shonen/Seinen mangas/animes are running out of storylines? But then, there's nothing new under the Shonen/Seinen sun: cookie-cutter main characters and copy & paste plots that mostly consist of fighting, Fighting & more damn FIGHTING!
Thank goodness for CLAMP. Originality still exists with the Four Goddesses, at least. The only predictable thing about their mangas is the unpredictability of their stories. And very UN-Shonen characters.
