Wh do we use the words anime and manga to distinguish between japanese and other cartoons and comics? I can understand that the social climate and thus the production process of the two is very different, but they are still the same medium.
It is the only example I can think of where loan words are used to refer to something which exists in your mother-tongue, I mean we don't use the Japanese word for film to refer to Japanese cinema, and the differences in their production and that of Hollywood movies is comparable to that of manga and comics.
So why do we do it, /a/?
