The storyline and themes weren't all that original (except maybe the whole drill/spiral metaphor, but I doubt it's never been used before in other types of media), but it was very nicely executed. The animation, music, writing, voice acting, characters and pacing were all quite well done. It's what makes Imaishi's work better than all of /a/'s beloved low budget obscure shows aimed at pedophile otakus as opposed to fans of animation in general: professionalism. Even Hideaki Anno had tons of interesting and innovative themes to explore, but he handled them with the delicacy of a chainsaw massacre.>>10869049>the difference with gl is that, it treats the garness singlemindedly. being gar is the answer to every and any problem
Go watch the epilogue again, where hobo simon helps that kid drill a coconut open. No, it wasn't a GAINAXEND; they were trying to reinforce the show's whole message using that scene and you fags still missed it.
